Program Overview
MO Link provides 9 hours per week of contemporary dance development with MO educators for serious dancers ages 15-45. It provides a wide range of contemporary repertoire and dance techniques including release technique, floor work, partnering, hip hop, ballet, improvisation, and movement generation led by MO guest artists and leading professionals.
MO Link is focused on nurturing new skills and broadening experience for dancers looking to expand their understanding of contemporary dance, preparing to join post-secondary programs, looking to learn more about the MO full-time multi-year program and/or looking to expand their toolkit and augment their existing training regimen. Link also provides Q&As with guest artists, access to the studio to work on their own projects or practice, artistic writing development and dance directory packages, invitations to the MO Full-Program showings & open houses, and monthly Show Clubs where participants receive a recorded, full-length professional contemporary dance performance and meet once a month on Zoom for a facilitated post-show discussion.
What To Expect
Dancers can expect a wide range of exciting professionals offering technical and artistic development designed to expose them to contemporary dance methods, skills and possibilities. Programming will also include learning professional repertoire and skills for generating their own movement. The MO environment is supportive, nurturing, hard working, non-discriminatory, professional, and fun. We will create an opportunity for dancers to try new things, make mistakes, ask their questions, deepen their skills and understanding of contemporary dance, prepare for their next steps and connect with a community of aspiring and professional dance artists. All classes are in-person and operate under a Public Health approved COVID-19 Safety plan.
How To Apply
MO Link is by invitation or application to ensure that participants have a level of strength and focus to thrive in the physical, artistic and intellectual demands of the class material. Applications for the 2023-24 Season are now open.
Find application form, including details and video requirements, in the Application & Fees section below.
Commitment
We recognize that dancers at this stage are balancing opportunities with other education and dance programs. We encourage dancers to uphold these responsibilities and understand that they may need to miss MO Link classes to do so. However, in order to plan and afford the high caliber professionals to lead the program, drop-in rates and refunds are not available.Link is divided into two terms: Term 1 from September – December & Term 2 from January – May. Participants are welcome to register for both or separate terms. Programming will not repeat, in other words the two terms feature different artists so we recommend registering for both terms in order to get the full spectrum of programming.

This fee is equal to a $14/hour standard professional class rate for 14 weekends/term and includes fees for studio usage, resources, and Show Club.

Q&As with Professionals
Each guest artist will include Q&A time at the end of their session. Here, participants can reflect on class material, ask questions about their own trajectory and practice, and get to know the artist more.
Open Studio Space – Own Work Time
An important part of supporting Link participants includes giving them their own time to explore their practice, choosing what they want to work on, and sharing ideas with one another. Every Sunday, the last hour is open for Link to use the studio as they wish to continue ideas from class, work on their own projects, or share with one another.
Show Club
Twice per term, Link participants will be given a video link to a full-length contemporary dance work. Show Club sessions will take place during two of the open studio sessions from 2pm-3pm on Sundays. Here, a professional dance artist will host a conversation where Link participants can discuss the show and share impressions. The Show Club host will provide different talking points and will support Link participants finding and communicating their own questions and observations. Video links to the recorded performances will be sent a month before Show Club.
MO Full-Program Open House & Studio Showings
Each term, Link participants will be invited to MO open studio days where they can observe class as well as MO studio showings where the full program participants share works in-progress.
Resources
New Link participants receive an Intro to Artistic Writing Development Package, Intro to Canadian Contemporary Dance Artists & Companies Directory and are invited to the MO Student Faculty & Forum Facebook page where MO Alumni and Faculty post community events and opportunities
